  2. How Barbie came to life Invented by Ruth Handler in 1959. Barbie was named after Ruth’s daughter and Ken after her son.

  3. Purpose of Barbie • The original purpose for the Barbie doll was to be a child’s play toy. But after it came out little girls started looking up to the model figure and wanted to be just like her.

  4. Role Model Material? Known to cause girls self esteem problems, body issues, diseases, and body image obsession.

  5. Self esteem • Some little girls look up to Barbie and wish to be like her , they want to look like her and feel “ugly” if they don’t.

  6. Body issues • Barbie’s body is impossible to get and many girls end up having personal body issues because of that…

  7. When someone wants Barbie’s body they will go to extreme levels, and in the end they may regret it.

  8. Diseases • Some girls end up developing eating disorders trying to get skinny

  9. Obsessions • Can become obsessed with something they don’t like about themselves or wish to change about themselves

  10. Extreme levels • Many go under the knife to become the real life Barbie
