  4. Schedule • Consider your audience. • Consider the size of your group and time frame available

  5. Place • Gymnasium • Fellowship Hall at a church

  6. Booths • Uncle Sam • Bank • Grocery • Housing • Communications • Insurance • Utilities • Entertainment • Medical/Dental • Transportation • Crystal Ball • Child Care • SOS • Violation Officer • Clothing

  9. Bank • Items to purchase: open up a savings account for $5.00 • Resource for: pens and check registers

  10. Grocery

  11. Transportation Students must purchase transportation before visiting the Insurance booth. They have the option of used and new. On top of the monthly payment, $150 has been included for gasoline and maintenance.

  12. Housing Students must purchase housing before visiting the Insurance booth They have the option to rent of buy but must purchase a house that fits their family size. For example, if they have three children they must purchase a home with at least three bedrooms. One for them and at least two for their children.

  13. Insurance • Before students can purchase insurance, they must visit and purchase items at the housing and transportation booths. • It is very hard to find insurance estimates on the internet. My advice is to go straight to the source, your local insurance agents.

  14. Medical/Dental • This is the only booth where purchasing something is optional. • Beware! There are risks when we go un- and/or under- insured.

  15. Utilities • Utility prices are based on the housing option purchased at the housing booth. • Prices are based on house size.

  16. Child Care • Everyone will pay $400/month regardless of family size.

  17. Communications • Items available to purchase: • Basic service • Basic Plus • Cell phone • Cable Television

  18. Entertainment • Have students create the list.

  20. Violation Officer • Ask a resource officer or local officer to volunteer.

  21. Clothing • Optional booth

  22. SOS • This is the booth where you should be during the fair. • Duties: help students with decisions, filling out their checkbook, or helping them get a second job.

  23. Items to think about 3 months prior to the event… • Schedule date of Reality Store • Establish a core committee (3-5) to manage the responsibilities of conducting a Reality Store • Contact resource people to serve as chairpersons for each booth • Contact volunteers within the community to assist with each booth • Contact facility • Reserve rooms and proper number of tables and chairs • Set layout of booths to allow for proper flow of participants through the store • Schedule volunteer orientation for Reality Store • Develop a budget 

  24. Things to budget for… • Display boards • Payday candy bars • Zero candy bars • Pens- get the bank to donate • Check registers- get the bank to donate • Paperwork • Refreshments for volunteers- ask grocery stores

A month or so before… • Paperwork: Organize all Reality Store materials, make copies and compile booth volunteer materials, brochures for students • Contact media (newspaper, radio, and television) • Schedule the day of the Reality Store for students, breaks for volunteer and lunch • Coordinate refreshments/lunch • Send volunteer letter with description of Reality Store, date and time of event, directions to the facility and sample paperwork used day of

  26. Public Relations • Local/school newspaper • Radio stations • Local television station • Facebook • Other social media applications

  27. Day of Fair • Volunteer orientation • Set up (if not completed the day before) • Assist volunteers with placement of booths • Assist youth as they walk through the store • Clean up, tie any lose ends

  28. Follow-up • Compile youth evaluations that were completed the day of activity • Compile volunteer evaluations that were completed the day of activity • Write thank you notes to volunteers
