Workforce Solutions for South Texas • Workforce Solutions for South Texas (WSST) as part of the Eagle Ford Shale Consortium of Local Workforce Development Boards, will sponsor 50 participants for training related to the oil and gas industry. • Sponsorship of 5 externships for teachers from local school districts at oil and gas employer worksites.

  3. Petroleum Technician Training • Laredo Community College has developed a short term training for Petroleum Technician that will provide participants with occupational training as well as a workforce literacy component.   • The Petroleum Technician / Workplace Literacy Program has 120 total contact hours to be completed in just 8 weeks.  • Upon training completion, the participants will obtain seven individual petroleum industry certificates (60 contact hours). • The Petroleum Technician includes the following seven individual certificates:  PEC Safeland, Hydrogen Sulfide Awareness, Confided Space Awareness, Hazmat, Hazwoper Refresher Training, Forklift Operator, and OSHA Safety.  • In addition, the participants will obtain a certificate of completion for the Workplace Literacy Program (60 contact hours).

  4. Externship Program • WSST sponsored five (5) high school teachers to complete an externship at an oil and gas worksite. The objective is that each teacher learns basic best practices and generally accepted processes in the oil and gas industry in order to create curriculum to be taught to high school students in the district’s oil and gas academy. • Create opportunities for possible replication of curriculum to be shared with other school districts in the EFS Consortium. • Opportunity to coordinate with local community college to promote post secondary education in the oil and gas industry.
