  5. Rome was an empire Empire at it’s strongest circa 117 AD

  6. Housing • Rich Romans • Lived in a Domus • Normally had two houses. • A Villa just outside the city. • A country villa well away from the city. • Glass windows • Poorer Romans • Lived in an Insulae • Poor Romans lived in flats called insulae. • 3 or 4 floors. • In a little room lived a whole family.

  7. Entertainment • Amphitheatres: used for gladiator fights and mock sea battles • Circuses where chariots were pulled by horses • Theatres where plays were staged.These could comedies or tradgedies.
