  5. Winter Junior Year Compile a list of colleges of interest Prepare for and take admissions tests Start thinking about scholarships/financial aid Begin planning college visits…spring break? Register for the May AP exams Investigate job shadow possibilities

Spring Junior Year Prepare for and take admissions tests Take free ACT at Lincoln, April 2013 Meet with counselor for senior classes and post-high school plans Visit colleges on prospective student days Review college applications for deadlines and requirements Talk to teachers about possible recommendations Update your resume

  7. Summer before Senior Year • Essay, essay, essay • Visit colleges • Apply to colleges…. • Early decision? (binding) • Early action?

Helpful hints • Do’s and don’ts when preparing for college… • Have a professional sounding email address. • Think before posting on social sites (twitter/facebook, etc). • Don’t assume the first college visited will be the one you commit to. Be open to what is available. • Talk with your child about what they want, what their expectations are. • Talk to your child about the finances…who is paying for what.
