Introduction to JMix

Step-by-Step

  • Open up the Hot Potatoes package

  • Click on JMix

  • Give your quiz a title

  • Type a sentence in the ‘Main sentence’ box, placing one word on each line

  • Save as a master file

  • Export as a htm file (either standard WebPages or drag and drop) rename and save

  • That’s it!

Select the Hot potatoes option from the Start: Programs: menu as shown

Click on JMix

Clicking on JMix brings up this screen

Type your title here

Type in a sentence. Put each word of the sentence on a new line

Click this icon to save as a master file. You can open this file and edit your quiz whenever you like

Click this icon to create a Hot Pot version 6 WebPage - the form in which the student will see your quiz. (Choose version 5 if you are using version 5 of the browser)

The WebPage is an .htm file. Name the .htm – it’s a good idea to give it the same name as the master file so that you can tell later which WebPage belongs to which master file

Select view the exercise in my browser to have a look at the finished product

The student needs to click on the words in the correct order to make the sentence.

As each word is clicked, it moves to the box above. Click ‘Check’ when you’ve finished

A message box repeats the sentence in the order that you chose and tells you whether or not you’re right

Click OK, Restart and then try again until it’s right

Clicking on this icon creates a drag and drop version of the WebPage

You may want to alter the name so that it’s distinguishable from the first WebPage you created

Drag and drop the words into the order you think is correct. Then click Check as before.
