  • It was first conceived by the late president of Ghana,

National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO)

It is a government institution that buys excess products from farmers, stores it, distribute and even sell it at affordable prices during shortage of products.

Some functions of NAFCO includes:

  • To provide window to farmers to produce in large quantities

NAFCO over the years has boosted food stock through:

Stabilizing Food Grain Supply and Price.

Ensuring Emergency Food Reserve.

Therefore, NAFCO food reserves could be used as an emergency food relief.

CONCLUSION

Problems of implementation of policies are:

  • Inadequate information (database) on farmers.

The policies concerning the improvement of food security should be a legal mandatory tool to every government in their tenure of office.
