  1. CORPS VALUES CORPS VALUES BRIEF

  2. CORPS VALUES Marines enjoy a reputation for being America’s “knights in shining armor”. Americans expect much from their Marines and our conduct is always under scrutiny. It is crucial that after we finish our entry-level indoctrination into the Marine Corps where we first learn about these values we don’t then forget them.

  3. CORPS VALUES MCO 1500.56, signed 16 December 1996, requires that Corps Values training be incorporated into unit training plans.

  4. CORPS VALUES • What are the Corps Values? • Honor • Courage • Commitment

  5. CORPS VALUES • What is Honor? • Honor is honesty, fairness, or integrity in one's beliefs and actions

  6. CORPS VALUES • What is Courage? • Courage is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., despite their fear; bravery.

  7. CORPS VALUES • What is Commitment? • Commitment is holding oneself to a standard or goal and not wavering in seeing it through, despite difficulty

  8. CORPS VALUES • What happens when we fail to adhere to our Corps Values? • Vietnam: My Lai Massacre • Mahmudiyah, Iraq: US Army soldier convicted of raping and killing a woman • Camp Lejeuene: Marine corporal accused of killing another Marine and fleeing the country

  9. CORPS VALUES Would any of these things have happened if the individuals involved acted with honor, courage, and commitment? Good rule of thumb: Whenever you think about doing something and are unsure if it is right or wrong, ask yourself: “Would I be proud to tell my parents, pastor, commanding officer, etc. about this?”

  10. CORPS VALUES If you hesitate even a little bit before you do it, you may want to reconsider your actions. You hesitated for a good reason.
