  12. “PLANTER of Praise” • Why are we studying these characteristics? Because we wish to glorify God!!! • Faith + Obedience!!! • “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Phil 4:9)

  13. Last time: “P” is for “Pure” • Definitions and Examples from Scripture • Power point presentations are now on the Bath Road WMF website!!! “Everyone who has hope in Jesus purifies himself, just as He is pure” (1 John 3:3)

  14. Review: “P” is for “Pure” In order to PURIFY our hearts we must: • Study the Word of God • Obey the Word of God “The words of the Lord are PURE words” (Ps 12:6) God will richly bless our faith and obedience!

  15. “L” is for “Lovely” • Definitions from Scripture. • Examples of what God describes as lovely. • God’s lessons in regards to loveliness.

  16. Definitions • Webster’s: beautiful, delightful and pleasing. • Greek: acceptable, pleasing, fair and proper. (2 references in NT) • Hebrew: pleasant, agreeable, delightful, beautiful (physical), sweet-sounding, musical, becoming, and fitting. (8 references in OT)

  17. Examples “It was at this time that Moses was born; and he was lovely in the sight of God, and he was nurtured three months in his father's home.” (Acts 7:20)

  18. Examples “Your cheeks are lovely with ornaments, Your neck with strings of beads." (Song of Solomon 1:10)

  19. Examples “Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; Sing praises to His name, for it is lovely.” (Psalm 135:3)

  20. Examples Psalm 150 “Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”

  22. Examples “How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who announces peace and brings good news of happiness, who announces salvation, and says to Zion, "Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:7)

  23. Lessons • Creation is lovely!!! • We have a God who appreciates beauty and aesthetics! • God wants us to slow down and enjoy things of beauty in this world; whether it means stopping to enjoy.....

  24. Lessons • Breathtaking landscapes.... “How lovely are Your dwelling places, O LORD of hosts! (Psalm 84:1)

  25. Lessons • The intricate beauty and complexity of a flower... “Not even Solomon in all his splendour was clothed like one of these!” (Mt 6:29)

  26. Lessons • A lovely fragrance.... • “For we are to God, the aroma of Christ.” (2 Cor 2:15)

  27. Lessons • Or a piece of music that stirs your heart. • “I will sing and make music with all my soul.” (Ps 108:1)

  28. Conclusions • The most lovely thing in the world is the gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ; and we become lovely by allowing His Spirit to fill us, and by sharing His message with others.
