  1. Effects of Algae on CO2 Consumption Over a Boiler Room Boiler room picture here By: Lisa Thompson Laura Beaudry and Matt Smouse

  2. Question • How effective is using algae to absorb carbon dioxide from the waste gas of a boiler room in Oregon? • Currently carbon dioxide from boiler rooms flows straight into the atmosphere contributing to global warming • (Stats?)

  3. Background Information • boiler rooms can burn wood, oil, coal or natural gas to produce heat for the building • Crescent Valley uses natural gas (methane) • combustion of methane gas: CH4(g) + 2 O2(g)→ CO2(g) + 2 H2O (g) • carbon dioxide released into the air

  4. Background (cont.) • Photosynthesis: process of converting light energy into chemical energy • needs light, water, and carbon dioxide and produces oxygen • algae is the fastest growing plant algae picture here
