Santa Claus Machine: 7 Things I Wish I'd Known Earlier

Nominated for 18 Emmys and 15 Golden Globes in its thirteen season run, Dallas is the epitome of the prime-time drama/soap opera genre. Premiering in 1978 as a five part mini-series, the show combines the normal sex and innuendo of timeless afternoon daytime soap with the freewheeling adventure of Texas wildcats and filthy rich capitalist oil barons. The mix of organization dealings and widespread affairs checked well with both the male and female group, triggering CBS to make Dallas a routine part of its prime-time lineup. The result was among the most successful tv programs in history.

  1. Chosen for 18 Emmys and 15 Golden Globes in its thirteen season run, Dallas is the embodiment of the prime- time drama/soap opera category. Premiering in 1978 as a five part mini-series, the show combines the usual sex and innuendo of timeless afternoon daytime soap with the freewheeling experience of Texas wildcats and filthy rich capitalist oil barons. The combination of business dealings and widespread affairs tested well with both the male and female group, prompting CBS to make Dallas a routine part of its prime-time lineup. The result was one of the most effective tv programs in history. In fact, the so-called Who shot J.R.? episode (A House Divided Air Date: 3-21-1980) still reigns as the 2nd most seen TV show in history (the season finale of MASH is # 1). With among a lot of unforgettable characters ever produced (the guy everybody likes to dislike), its not a surprise that Dallas held the # 1 or # 2 spot in the Nielsen rankings for the majority of the 1980s Dallas spent most of its tv life in the Friday night time slot following the effective CBS series, The Dukes Of Hazzard. Developer David Jacobs originally meant to produce a series around a poor Texas woman, Pam Barnes (Victoria Principal), who marries into a wealthy family (The Ewings) with whom her household has actually been feuding for years. The first five episodes primarily focus around the household discord dealt with by Pam and her partner Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy) as they attempt to bring their households to a truce. However it quickly became apparent to manufacturers of the show that Bobbys rascal of a bro, Ewing Oil President J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman), would be the real star of the program. Kid of Ewing Oil creator Jock Ewing (Jim Davis) and his partner Ellie (Barbara Bel Geddes), J.R. looked for to make Ewing Oil the biggest independent oil company on the planet, and he meant to go to any lengths essential to get what he wanted. And as youll see, sooner or later, J.R. always gets what he wants Along the method, he butts heads with life-long rival Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval), drives his own better half Take legal action against Ellen (Linda Gray) to alcoholism, and even home loans the beloved Southfork Ranch (Miss Ellies childhood house and present house for the majority of the Ewing clan). Southfork supervisor Ray Krebs superluminal (Steve Kanaly) and Ewing grandchild Lucy (Charlene Tilton) add flavorful subplots to a series often controlled by J.R.s dubious schemes. Simply put, Dallas provides its audiences everything cash, sex, violence, conspiracy, complex service dealings, and so on. If you have not seen it, then right away start enjoying from the beginning episodes of the first season. You wont be disappointed! The Dallas DVD includes a variety of exciting episodes including the series best Diggers Child in which the youngest of the Ewing children, Bobby, introduces his wealthy household to his new bride-to-be, Pamela Barnes. But given the enduring feud in between their 2 households, not everyone is pleased. In reality, older brother J.R. right away starts plotting to break up the marriage Other significant episodes include Election in which J.R.s nemesis Cliff Barnes sees his congressional hopes undercut by a Ewing-financed opposition project, and the season finale John Ewing III in which Sue Ellens alcoholism threatens the life of her unborn infant Below is a list of episodes consisted of on the Dallas (Seasons 1 & 2) DVD: Episode 1 (Diggers Daughter) Air Date: 04-02-1978 Episode 2 (Lessons) Air Date: 04-09-1978 Episode 3 (Spy in your house) Air Date: 04-16-1978 Episode 4 (Winds of Revenge) Air Date: 04-23-1978 Episode 5 (Barbecue) Air Date: 04-30-1978 Episode 6 (Reunion Part One) Air Date: 09-23-1978 Episode 7 (Reunion Sequel) Air Date: 09-30-1978 Episode 8 (Old Acquaintance) Air Date: 10-07-1978
