  3. Let me introduce you to Ms. Elizabeth Williams. Did you know that… • She is an only child. • She is the daughter of a retired teacher. (That must be where she gets her educational enthusiasm! ) • She attended Wayne State University Law School before realizing her passion for teaching.

  4. But wait, there’s more… • She worked as a conflict resolution trainer and mediator in both elementary and middle schools. • She is a published writer. • She loves mint chocolate chip ice cream!

Educational Background • 1990 Renaissance High School, Detroit, MI • 1994 University Of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI Bachelor of Arts Degree in English • 2005 Marygrove College, Detroit, MI (summa cum laude) Master of Education degree Teaching Certificate (Elementary K-5 all subjects, K-8 All Subjects Self Contained Classroom)

  6. Work History • Joined Academy of Business and Technology Elementary School staff in 2008 • Taught 3rd grade for 5 years • Returned to 2nd grade in 2014

  7. Professional Goals • Enhance my teaching skills with workshops, seminars, and classes. • Inspire my students to achieve their best in everything they do.

  8. Challenges Student Engagement Teaching students on different academic levels and with different needs. Successes!!! We made growth on our MAP and NAIKU scores! We created a student friendly and emotionally-safe environment where all children could learn. The Eagles Nest of 2016-2017

Contributions @ ABT Elementary • Helped with Game Night in 2009 • Assisted with Annual Title I Open House • Participated in Multicultural Day in 2009 - 2017 • Annually took part in our Black History Program • Tutored after school and for Saturday MEAP prep tutoring when I taught 3rd grade • Tutored after school and taught summer school • And last but most important… I TAUGHT and am still TEACHING some of ABT Elementary’s best students!!!

Instructional Strategies for Classroom Success • Students always read the directions and questions first so they can understand what is expected. • The teacher models, students use guided practice and independent practice to lead the way to assessing our understanding. • Students read and reread for understanding. • If students don’t understand, then they read the text again. Then they ask questions if they still don’t get it. • Students get up, move around and activate their learning using kinesthetic techniques. • The teacher uses a variety of differentiated instructional techniques in an effort to teach to different learning styles. • Students Practice Practice Practice!!!

Classroom and Behavior Management Strategies • Assign classroom responsibilities (captains) so students can assert their independence and develop a sense of community. • Model how to be respectful so students can practice showing respect to themselves and others. • Help students to resolve their problems by using a conflict resolution and mediation approach. • Reinforce clear classroom norms. • Encourage positive behavior. • Use the PBIS program. • Be consistent with rewards and consequences.

  12. What is Academic Success for All? • Every student can strive to achieve. • Every student is capable of growth. • Every student has academic value. • Success can only be achieved if you take a risk. • We will always reach for excellence!

Interests • Writing poetry and expository text • Reading mysteries • Spending quality time with family and friends • Going to Sunday worship service, attending various church activities and serving on 3 usher boards • Bowling with a league • Watching a good movie • Participating actively as a member of the Association of Black Educators (ABlE)

  14. Hobbies • Exercising (bicycling, aerobics, walking, bowling) • Cooking and baking • Arts and Crafts (Macrame, flower arranging, and calligraphy)

  15. Personal Goals • Publish a book of poetry by next year. • Travel abroad and learn about a new culture. • Read more of the classics. • Spend more time volunteering and helping others. • Participate in a marathon.
