  2. Introduction Jump into your time machine and travel back to the time Australia was discovered! Meet the Australian Aborigines, sail aboard the first fleet, discover new cities with the explorers, become a bushranger and look for gold in the gold rush! By the end of this web quest you will have expert knowledge of Australian history and will be able to answer this question: What happened in Australia between 1770 and 1901?

  3. Task You will be split into groups to fulfil the separate tasks in your journey as Time Travellers (check your group here). There will be five different groups – Convicts, Aborigines, Bushrangers, Explorers and Gold Miners.Your group should include the following roles: head researcher, head scribe, ideas person, creative designer and technical advisor. You will need to find out exactly what happened in Australian history and you will need to keep a record of all your adventures. In your groups you will complete the following tasks:

  4. Task (continued…) • Firstly, you will need to find some facts about the people of your group. Complete this worksheet using the links provided on the process page. • Next you will need to fill in your journal. You should write about a day in the life of your group. Include things like what you ate, what you did, what you saw and what you felt. • Finally, you need to create a timeline of events from the perspective of your group, starting at 1770 and ending at 1901. Use the ideas provided here (mix and match – years and events). Don’t forget to include other important events, with a short description (e.g., what date was it, what happened, who was involved?). • You will present your adventures to the other groups when we have all returned to the present day.

If you are a Convict, you will write about your day as a convict; if you are an explorer, write about your day as an explorer. Don’t forget to include what you did, what you saw, what you ate and what your thoughts were. You can include lyrics to any songs that were sung or pictures of what you saw. Make sure your journal is interesting and exciting! • You need to create your timeline of events, starting at 1770 and ending at 1901, from the perspective of your group. Use the ideas provided here (mix and match – years and events). Don’t forget to include other important events, with a short description (e.g., what date was it, what happened, who was involved?). You can present your adventures in any way you choose to show the rest of the class what life was like for your group. You may make a PowerPoint presentation, sing a song, make a photostory presentation, write a poem, create a story book, or any other way of presenting that your group chooses.
