  1. A High Performance COTS based Vector Processor for Space Presented By: Honeywell Space Systems Payload Engineering Group 13350 U.S. Highway 19 North Clearwater, FL 33764-7290 Mail Station 893-5 Telephone (727) 539-4000

  2. Rad Hard Vector Processor Concept Vector Math Scalar Math • DSP24 Serves as a “Math Co-Processor” to Accelerate Vector Math • FFT • Matrix Operations • Filters • General Purpose DSP for Scalar Math • Control Processor • DSP Algorithm Control • Interface to System Bus Vector Processor Block Data In Buffer Buffer Data Out Subsystems Control Bus GP DSP

  3. Why the need? • High Performance COTS based DSP solutions for Space are virtually non-existent • Traditional DSP solutions for Space have been “point solutions” and not flexible • ASICs • FFT Chips • Limited re-programmability • RHVP addresses these issues by allowing fast, flexible and easy development of DSP solutions in both Hardware and Software • Modular Design • Flexible I/O • COTS based Software Development Environment (SDE) • Based on Valley Technologies software development tools • Low cost commercial RHVP boards for Software development

  4. Typical Signal Processing Requirements The RHVP “Fits” Close to the Sensor sensors CPU I/O Processor DSP Time Dependent Processing (TDP) Object Dependent Processing (ODP) Mission Dependent Processing (MDP) Telemetry Data Rates HIGH MED LOW Operations/Sec Software LOW MED HIGH Complexity RHVP GP Processor For a generic signal processing system, the data transfer rates and operations per second tend to decrease, while software complexity and use of standard software increases, the RHVP meets the needs of real-time processing with the flexibility of programmability.

  5. RHVP Architecture VP VECTOR PROCESSOR GP-DSP GENERAL PURPOSE DSP cPCI BUS

  6. RHVP Advantages • High Performance DSP Board for Space • COTS • DSP Chips • Software Development Tools • Interface Mezzanine Modules • Form factor • Modular & Scalable design • I/O is often custom and unique for different applications • Only added the required I/O to the RHVP baseboard • Provided mezzanine sites for custom I/O • Multiple RHVP configurations supported • Payload host controller interfaces allow reconfiguration

The RHVP is highly efficient for processing the input data stream directly by performing the Discrete Cosine Transform followed by the Quantizing (decimation) process.
