  2. Lesson One The Human Form You will need: Graphite, A Sheet of Paper, A human model Artists often use the tools they are writing with to measure what they are drawing. It enables them to get their work in proportion and to scale All should be able to draw a model and attempt to use their graphite as a measuring tool Most should be able to create a drawing that looks to scale Some should be able to add detail to their drawing and also ensure that it is in proportion

  3. Lesson Two Creating Movement You will need: A Pencil, A human template, A model Using shading a the positioning of your template you will create an image that portrays movement. Firstly choose the type of movement and then position your template in 3 positions on your page. Then shade following the demo All should be able to draw out the three positions of their chosen movement and shade in Most should be able to portray what the movement is and shade in Some should be able to show the direction of the light source using shading

Lesson Artists Inspiration You will need: A4 Water colour paper, HB pencil (sharp) Choose a piece of work by the Artist Ukiyo-e Create the outline of the drawing on water colour paper as we will be painting it later on... All will create their own version of the artist Ukiyo-e’s work Most will create an original piece of the artist Ukiyo-e’s work Some will also add finer detail such as collage

Lesson No Wet on wet You will need: A Palette of water colours, a paint brush, a cup of water • Using only water wet the first area you are going to add colour • Get a lot of water on your brush and dab each area to it spreads into the wet area • Paint the next area but ensure that it is not next to the area you have just painted Example of wet on wet All will create their own version of the artist Ukiyo-e’s work Most will create an original piece of the artist Ukiyo-e’s work Some will also add finer detail such as collage

Lesson No Collage You will need: A glue stick, old magazines/ newspaper Choose a patterned area on your page and create a section using collage This could be bits cut or torn from magazines or newspaper glued into the space An example of collage All will create their own version of the artist Ukiyo-e’s work Most will create an original piece of the artist Ukiyo-e’s work Some will also add finer detail such as collage

Lesson No Reduction Printing You will need: A roller, a roller tray, 4 A5 sheets of paper, an A5 sheet of foam, an A5 sheet of tracing paper, a pencil, a biro Step 1 • Create a colour fusion on your tray and roll your roller in it • Roll onto your foam sheet • Press onto your 4 sheets of A5 paper • Wash the foam sheet • Trace over your Manga creation picking out the main silhouette of the face/ body • Press this onto your foam with the biro • Break away the foam around the shape • Clean the tray and choose a darker colour • Repeat steps 1(b)-(d) • Trace over a new section that is smaller and repeat steps 2(a)-(e) You should be able to do this once more so you will have 4 different colours All should be able to create an artwork using three colours Most should be able to create a piece of artwork using 4 colours Some will be able to add extra detail learnt throughout this module such as collage Step 2 Step 3
