Ashleigh Hall • In the UK Ashleigh left her home one Sunday night and told her family that she was staying with a friend. • She was really going to meet up with a man she had met on facebook. • This man was a 32 year old posing as 16 year old boy. • When Ashleigh did not return home the next day, her mother notified the police.
Ashleigh cont’d • The 32 year old man that killed her had been arrested for driving without insurance. • While in his cell he told a detective that he had killed a girl. • This girl was Ashleigh. • He took the police to where he had dumped her body.

Angelo Oesch • Convicted Level 1 sex offender who joined some online networks. • Did not disclose that he was a sex offender upon joining the site • He also joined eHarmony ,AIM, facebook, and MySpace • Faces up to 3 years in prison
WOW 90,000! Offenders Online • Very easy to sign up • Social networking sites were created so adults and teenagers could communicate with each other. • 90,000 sex offenders were found and removed from MySpace. • Where there are minors predators will lurk.
It is the law! Law in Illinois • Governor Pat Quinn signed new laws restricting sex offenders from using twitter, facebook, MySpace, etc. • One law, that takes effect on January 1st, makes it a felony for sex offenders to use these online networking sites. • “The object is to protect the innocent on the Internet from sex offenders.” -Quinn
Pennsylvania Law • Bucks County Senator wants to pass a law restricting sex offenders from using online sites. • PA e-STOP would forbid those registered under Meghan’s law from using the Internet to commit sexual offenses. • Registered sex-offenders will be restricted from using the Internet at their jobs and will have to submit to home computer inspections. PA e-STOP
