  3. History • Madrid has been the capital of Spain since the seventeenth century. • It is the highest level capital in Europe. • The first governor of Madrid was Enrique Tierno Galván. • The Plaza de Cibeles which is famous for the fountain of goddess Cibele is found here. Kayla Graves
