  2. Windows 98 Setup Add VPN Adapter Have Windows 98 CD ready • Start Menu • Settings • Control Panel • Networking • ‘Add’ Button

  3. Windows 98 Setup Select ‘Adapter’ and ‘Add’ button

  4. Windows 98 Setup • Under ‘Manufacturers’ select ‘Microsoft’ • Under ‘Network Adapters’ select VPN Adapter and ‘Ok’

  5. Windows 98 Setup • Confirm VPN Adapter is present • Select ‘Ok’ • Insert CD if necessary • Expect a reboot

  6. Windows 98 Setup Create a Dial-up Connection • Start Menu • Programs • Accessories • Communications • Dial-up Networking • Make New Connection • Select VPN Adapter device and connection name

  7. Windows 98 Setup First time modem setup • You may see an area code dialog • Enter information and press ‘Close’

  8. Windows 98 Setup • Enter IP number as shown • Select ‘Next’

  9. Windows 98 Setup Complete by pressing ‘Finish’

  10. Windows 98 Setup Activate a Dial-up Connection • First connect to internet • Start Menu • Programs • Accessories • Communications • Dial-up Networking • Select VPN connection • Enter login name and password • Select ‘Connect’ • Ignore warning messages if present

  11. Windows 98 Setup Search for Computer • Start Menu • Find • Computer • Enter computer name • Open computer when found

  12. Windows 2000 Setup Create a Dial-up Connection Have Windows 2000 CD ready • Start Menu • Programs • Accessories • Communications • Network and Dial-up Connections • Make New Connection

  13. Windows 2000 Setup • First time modem setup • You may see an area code dialog • Enter information and press ‘Ok’

  14. Windows 2000 Setup First time modem setup • After the location dialog the Finish window is displayed • Select ‘Ok’

  15. Windows 2000 Setup • Connection Type • After New Connection is selected ( and possible modem setup ) select VPN Connection • Select ‘Next’

  16. Windows 2000 Setup • IP Number • Enter the IP number as shown • Select ‘Next’

  17. Windows 2000 Setup • Connection Availability • Select preference • Select ‘Next’

  18. Windows 2000 Setup • Select a connection name • Select ‘Add shortcut to desktop’ • Select ‘Finish’

  19. Windows 2000 Setup • Connect to VPN • To activate connection, first connect to internet, then select VPN shortcut • Ignore warning messages if present

  20. Windows 2000 Setup • Search for Computer • Start Menu • Search • For files or folders • Search for Computers • Enter computer name • Open computer when found

  21. VPN Issues • VPN connections are slow • May lose net browsing and email while connection is open • VPN packet protocols must be supported by your ISP • Must use login name and password while at STI office • Don’t expect it to work first time
