University - Profile • Established in 1950 • NAAC Accredited Grade “A” University • Two more Campuses established 5 years back • North Campus at Baramullah • South Campus at Anantnag • Three more campuses at Kupwara, Leh and Kargil in offing. Expected to start Academic Activities from the coming session.

Courses • 15 Diploma courses • Full fledged Distance Learning Division offering 20 Courses • North & South Campuses • 5 Departments each • 40 Affiliated Colleges in Government Sector. • 86 Affiliated Colleges in Private Sector.

Courses Offered & Enrollment • 25 Undergraduate Courses having enrollment of 1.50 Lakh Students. • 55 Masters Programme having enrollment of 20 Thousand Students. • M.Phil and PhD Programmes having 200 students enrolled. • 10 Professional Courses having enrollment of 25 Thousand Students. • 15 Diploma courses having enrollment of 1Thousand Students.

  5. Profile of Directorate IT&SS • Established in December, 2007 • All ICT related activities are directly under this Directorate. These activities include: • Establishing and Maintenance of University Network • Software Development • Capacity Building • Delivery of Citizen Centric Services • Implementation of e-Governance

  7. Scope of the Project Forty (40) affiliated Govt. Degree Colleges of the Valley Offices of the Departments & Centers’ of Kashmir University Entire Examination Wing of the University Completion period – 2 Years

Main Features • Establishing Information Centers in all Affiliated Colleges • Providing High Speed Connectivity & Skilled Manpower in all Affiliated Colleges. • Providing requisite Infrastructure at each University Department/Centre office. • Digitization of records. • Establishment of Data Centre at University Campus. • Delivery of online Services for Students, Colleges/ Departments, Paper Setters, Evaluators & others Stake Holders. • Providing In-house Software Solutions.

Progress in e-Governance • Established Software Development Unit for In-house Software Development. • Collaborating with Wipro and Expedien e-Solutions • Software solutions developed so far: • Student Registration System (Implemented) • Pre-Examination Module (Implemented) • Registration & Examination College Module (Implemented) • Budget, Schedule of Establishment & Salary System (Implemented) • Work Flow Management (Beta Testing Phase) • e-Office (Beta Testing Phase)

Network Status • Entire Main campus has been inter-connected through Optical Fiber Cables (OFC) • Campus Wi-Fi system operational in some areas of the campus. • 24x7 High Speed Internet services available • Access to the network is secured by latest and state of the art firewall • In-house Mail and Web Server. • Current users - 3661

Proposed Project e-Connectivity • Implementation to be carried out in three Phases each of duration One Year encompassing the following activities: • Establishing e-Learning/Browsing Centers in all Government Sector Colleges affiliated with University. • Connecting 86 Private Sector Affiliated Colleges with 2Mbps Bandwidth at each Location. • Providing Structured Network Cabling at Colleges and University Campuses • Providing Computer Hardware and add-ons.

  21. E-Governance – University Administration • Target • Complete e-Governance of the University Administrative System. • Phases • Phase I encompasses 16 Administrative Units in a time span of 1 Year • Phase II encompasses 17 Administrative Units in a time span of 1 Year.

E-Assessment Centre • Facts • Development of a dynamic assessment (examination) system is a global issue. • Operational models do not meet the current challenges • Models are developed without considering the Technological support. • Current systems limited to conduct of examination & declaration of results sacrificing the main objectives.

E-Assessment Centre - Contd • Objectives • A system to be research Oriented involving experts from Education & Technology (IT) to develop and experiment practical models • A Central e-based facility for coordinating Teaching & Learning Process • A facility to carry out the continuous assessment of the students • A central facility for conduct of online entrance examinations. • Financial Support Required = Rs. 4,29,73,308
