Engineering Status - WBS 1.2.2 (1) Support Tables, WBS 1.2.2: Covers all the hardware required to support XPP X-ray diagnostic and optic hardware, and associated equipment, from the floor up to the interface datum(s) with DCO WBS 1.5. 1.2.2.1 covers hardware in H3 required to translate 600 mm between positions 1 & 2 1.2.2.2 cover H2 hardware (no translation required)

  9. Engineering Status - WBS 1.2.2 (3) Preliminary design review completed Aug 27, ’08. Ref: TR-391-003-06 Radiation shielding requirements released and incorporated into design: Sept ’08. Seismic review and approval completed Nov ’08. Final Design Review completed Jan 26, ’09. Ref: TR-391-003-1 Detail documentation in process. Surface plates and seismic restraint system procurement req’s complete. Next scheduled review is documentation / installation readiness status scheduled for Apr 29, ’09. Complete system required RFI Oct ’09. Granite vendor lead time: 14 weeks Strongback fab lead time: 16 weeks All hardware will be released to fab by end a May ’09 Strongback release to fab targeted for mid-april Total procurement / fab value is $94.5K H3: $73K, H2: $21.5K No significant design / cost revisions have been made since CD2.

Optical Tables vendor lead time: 12 weeks Containment fab lead time: 8 weeks Total procurement / fab value is $77K Optical tables: $47K budgeted Actual should be lower due to revised support leg design / table connections Containment system: $30K budgeted Actual quoted cost: $25K

  13. Engineering Status - WBS 1.2.5 (1) The diffractometer system, WBS 1.2.5: Provides for the positioning and rotation of the experimental sample and the array detector. Composed of the sample goniometer (“tilt” and “kappa” goniometer) and the detector mover subsystems.

Per SOW PS-391-000-86 Ref: TR-391-003-06 Advanced procurement review conducted Nov 4, ’08 Ref TR-391-003-09. Robot Basing and work envelope study conducted Nov ’08 – Jan ‘09. Per SOW PS-391-000-95 Ref: TR-391-003-18 Detector mover ICD draft completed Feb ’09 Consultation / integration meeting with BNL detector group feb ‘09 RFP completed Mar ’09 Procurement Award April ‘09 Support structure preliminary design in process. Engineering requirements created and agreed. ESD in draft. PDR scheduled Apr 29, ’09. Final basing analysis and software development to be conducted in parallel with robot procurement System required RFI Apr ’10. Procurement specification completed Dec, ’08 Ref: PS-391-001-55. Sample goniometer RFP released Jan ‘09 Awarded Mar ‘09 In-house Designed elements Mounting base, alignment fixtures, cable management, etc Preliminary designs complete, approved. Final design / documentation waiting for vendor component interface detail designs. Address / schedule in goniometer procurement spec. FDR scheduled Jul 30, ’09. System required RFI Apr ’10. Goniometer vendor lead time: 36 weeks Includes testing Mounting base fab lead time: 20 weeks Info to complete desing due from vendor Early Jun ‘09 Total procurement / fab value is $475K Goniometer: $425K Vendor test / installation included Fab components: $50K includes mounting base, beam stop, alignment fixtures, etc.

Engineering Status - WBS 1.2.7 • Vacuum System Design review completed January, ’09. • No significant issues or action items • Radiation shielding requirements released and incorporated into design: Sept ’08. • Utilizing a significant qty of the XTOD installation. • Final design details (tube lengths, support locations) waiting XTOD install configuration. • Revised ICD with XTOD in draft • Drift pipes, Pump Tee’s and supports that interface with XPP beamline final detail elements waiting XTOD design reviews • Detail documentation of non-affected components ready detail documentation. • Complete system required RFI May ’10. • Same as DCO hardware • No components with significant lead / Fab time • Total procurement / fab value is $160K • Includes leak checker / pump cart / spares / vac supplies Hutch 2 Installation XPP Beamline Vac XTOD Interface “Removable” Vacuum Duct

Engineering Status-Hutch Measurements (1) Temperature: < ½ deg F for >3 days No hutch doors or wall plugs in place No special procedures No thermal loads in hutch • Absolute Floor position • H3 floor is high by 0.2 to 0.7 inches • H2 floor is high by 0.1 to 0.2 inches • Will recheck for absolute motion issues in spring

  18. Engineering Status-Hutch Measurements (2) Hutch low frequency dimensions Measured at multiple positions on floor, wall and ceiling using laser tracker. Relative position measured over the course of several days. Full data analysis in work. Temp correlation, etc. Measurements ongoing to extend continuous data set. • Hutch high(er) frequency spectrum response • Consistent with stability requirements for XPP • Floor motion will be below “concern threshold” • Full analysis TBC • Latest measurements with utilities on consistent with baseline measurements (utilities off).

  19. Engineering Status – Configuration Control CAD-CAE system model-documentation hierarchy established “Drawing Tree” Hutch Level definitive lay-out and MIE stay-clears established and released. Instrument ESD released. Interface control documents (ICD) to Controls, DCO, BNL detector and SXR generated and / or released.

  20. Cost and Schedule Performance CPI & SPI Chart - Felix Both spikes caused mostly by the replanning of the BNL Detector effort The BNL replanning required deleting the existing plan and reloading history Actuals and Performance in Jan.

Critical Path – Risk Identification / Mitigation Critical Path is the Sample Goniometer 30 days of float in existing schedule (RFI April ’10) System awarded to Huber on schedule (“place PO on time” risk retired) Maintain close contact with vendor, frequent progress updates, required for early identification and mitigation of remaining schedule risks. Risk Registry has 11 entries for XPP (excluding detector) 1 technical risk for robot basing / analysis retired 2 schedule risk for goniometer and robot award ritired

  25. Summary All XPP MIE’s have completed preliminary design reviews. Many have completed final design review. Long lead subsystems have completed advanced procurement review / approval. Diffractometer System Awarded. Detector mover procurement well advanced. Many MIE’s Req’s or procurements in process. Laser containment / optical table system. Supports Surface Plates XPP has completed substantial interface coordination with other “disciplines”. ICD’s in place. Layouts jointly shared / owned. Hutch subsystems in advanced stage of design / integration. Vacuum System design complete. Waiting final XTOD integration. Raised Floor / Hutch Facilities design being integrated with all “stakeholders”.
