  1. Welcome to My Version of HomeworkOPOLY! Dear Fellow Educators, I was so excited about this game that I went a little “bonkers” revising and creating new features. You have my permission to use my game board and Chance/Community Lunchbox cards. To give credit, where credit is due, I used the HomeworkOPOLY idea from the following website: http://www.teachnet.com/homeworkopoly/ The Teachnet website has the game board and cards for you to download in PDF form. However, if you want to use my blank game board, please do so. The reason I like what I created, is because you can type (using PowerPoint), each of the game spots on the board. If you download the Teachnet game, you either have to use what they created, or write what you want on their game board. I like computer writing rather than my own. I am hoping these slides view ok on your computer. Since I designed everything using a 22 inch screen, I noticed a few of the slides came out a little wacky when I went to print using a 15 inch screen at school. Before I printed, I had to adjust a few of the pictures and writing. If this happens to you, just re-adjust things. That’s what I did. I also created this on PowerPoint 2007. However, I saved it in 2003 so most people should be able to view and print.

  2. You may print this whole presentation, or print individual slides. If you want to add or change the writing to fit your needs, just create a text box where you need it. Directions, Tips, and Tricks • Type and add pictures to each of the game spots. • Print on regular paper or card stock. Since I mounted my game on a magneticwhiteboard, I decided to print on regular paper. After printing, I glued one side of the game onto construction paper (4 sides altogether). Obviously, try and laminate the sides. Then, using magnets, I put the game up on my whiteboard. If you are going to put the game on a bulletin board, try printing on cardstock. • The students colored and cut out little cars for their game pieces. Rules Create rules to fit your circumstances. Here is what I did: 1. Students roll the dice once a week on Friday if they completed (in a satisfactory manner), all of their homework. Occasionally, they were rewarded to roll the dice during another day. For example, if they did a perfect job during a fire drill, everyone got to roll once. Or, one time the Superintendent commented on how well behaved they were. So, they all got to roll. But, I don’t go crazy. Once a week is plenty!

  3. 2. Using the idea from Teachnet and other educators, I have a classroom job called the GAME SHOW HOST (or hostess). The responsibility of the host is to monitor the rolling of the dice, making sure the student jumps his/her game marker correctly. The host also gives out the special “tickets” or Community Lunchbox/ Chance cards to winning students. One thing that has helped, is I trained the host to say this: • Game Show Host: “Your marker is on Library.” (or whatever spot they are on) “What spot are you on?” • Student: “My marker is on Library.” • Then, the student rolls the dice. This helps alleviate problems if the child doesn’t move his/her marker correctly. There are less arguments. • After seeing my game board, you are probably wishing you could print it out. Well, I am going to let you be creative and design your own. I designed a board that has characters and situations that are popular with the kids at this moment. It will be out of date by next year when Hannah Montana has stopped being popular. I am designing a math themed board which I will finish and put up in the early spring. • Since my name is Mrs. Anglin, I named my game AnglinOPOLY. You can use your name in the game title too. Just delete my name (on slide____) and type your own. Or, you can use the Teachnet’s HomeworkOPOLY sign.

  4. Oh, by the way, when you see the directions on the game freetime passes, that say, This computer pass is to be used during MAY Dos. Here is what MAY Dos mean: It is kind of a California thing…we write on our boards Must Dos and May Dos Children MUST DO the assignments listed before they can start any of the MAY Dos. If you don’t do the MAY DO MUST DO procedure, just delete it from my cards. Feel free to add or change anything on this PowerPoint presentation.

  5. This is what my gameboard looks like on my whiteboard.

  6. This next section are the game board tickets, Chance, and Community Lunchbox cards. Keep or change what you would like to have printed.
