Natural resources are a major driver of economic growth • Directly and indirectly accounts for almost one-fifth of Canada’s GDP (2013) • About 1.8 million jobs are directly and indirectly supported by Canada’s natural resource sector (2013) • $236 billion in Canadian natural resource exports in 2013; 53% of Canada’s total merchandise exports

Canada is a global energy leader… • Vast renewable and clean energy potential • e.g. wind, biomass, solar, marine and geothermal • Main supplier of energy to the U.S. • Oil, gas and electricity • 3rd largest proven oil reserves behind Venezuela and Saudi Arabia • 79% of electricity generation is non-GHG-emitting

  5. …a major producer of minerals and metals… • Canada is a leading mining nation • More than 200 producing mines; 49 smelters, refineries and steel mills • Rich deposits, with more than 60 minerals and metals • A hub for equipment and suppliers • Responsible for nearly 50% of the world’s equity financing in 2013 • Leader in developing and implementing new extraction and green mining technologies

Join the NRCan policy community! • The Policy Analyst Recruitment and Development Program (PARDP) is NRCan’s signature accelerated development program • Network of Masters and Ph.D. graduates who share a strong interest in public policy and strengthen NRCan's policy leadership capacity • Program participants learn how to effectively manage their careers and develop skills and knowledge necessary to become leaders in policy

  15. Application process • Apply on-line by February 9, 2015 at: nrcan.gc.ca/careers/83 • On-campus interviews will be conducted in February 2015 • Second round of interviews held in Ottawa in March 2015 • Job offers in April 2015 • Recruits can begin working anytime until January 2016
