Mexico shoots at American Soldiers across the Rio Grande and American soldiers are killed Congress declares war on Mexico 1846 US wins Mexican War 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo -Mexico get 15 Million -US gets land west of TX to Pacific Ocean - Rio Grande is TX Border Land from Mexican war is called Mexican Cession New Mexico does not want to be part of Tx Compromise of 1850 US offers Tx 10 million for its debt if it gives up claims to New Mexico
