  1. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEWASSUMPTIONS • Train like we fight • Use as much of the real systems as possible (see next slide for an architectural view) • A Training TWS Exercise starts with the receipt of an ATO at TC2S and ends at ATO reporting by the TSC

  2. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEW TC2S (TSC) IMMM H&S/BDI/BDII IMMM TSN (JCM 3900/114) JCM 3900/146 Messages IMMM COMMS H&S/BDI/BDII H&S/BDI/BDII IMMM AUR SIM AUR SIM JCM 3900/146 Messages H&S/BDI/BDII TTWCS (MAIN) TCOMMS (Launch Platform) IMMM IMMM TTWCS (MAIN) H&S/BDI/BDII CCS JCM 3900/146 Messages TTWCS (SURFACE) TTWCS (SUB) PC-MDS

  3. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEWSETUP • TC2S (TSC) – Go into a training type mode • Be able to send both Tactical and Training missions • Be able to send Training data (includes 3900/146 messages including ACMS, Threat Data, Training Strike Packages and etc.) • Be able to send Strike Plans • Be able to create missions to support the ATO • Be able to communicate with the AUR via TSN • TC2S (Launch Platform) – Go into a training type mode • TCOMMS pass training data between TC2S and TTWCS and between TC2S (TSC) and TC2S (Launch Platform) • TCOMMS pass TSN messages between the TTWCS and the TSN and TC2S and the TSN

  4. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEWSETUP (Cont.) • TTWCS – Go into training mode (TWS) • Be able to access both Tactical and Training missions • Be able to create LPMP missions • Be able to process CFF tasking • Be able to process Training Strike Packages • Be able to process Tactical and Training MDUs • Be able to communicate with the AUR via TSN • Use or create a training inventory either within TTWCS or VLS (for Subs it would be CCS only) • Be able to configure the AUR SIM to go into real TSN mode (see new capability slide)

  5. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEWNEW CAPABILITIES REQUIRED • AUR SIM • The AUR SIM that currently exists in TTWCS must be augmented to receive IMMMs from the TSN via TCOMMS and PLE within TTWCS • The AUR SIM must be augmented to send all AUR H&S, BDI, & BDII messages to the TSN (Believe existing sim can handle the number of missiles required …32 + 30 = 62 or is the correct number 128?) • TTWCS (TC2) must be modified to receive IMMMs from the TSN and pass them to the AUR SIM in Training Mode (TWS) • TTWCS (TC2) must be modified to send H&S, BDI, & BDII messages received from the AUR SIM to the TSN in Training Mode (TWS)

  6. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEWQUESTIONS • If the TSN is not available can TCOMMS just use any COMMS path to send the TSN data when TCOMMS is in Training mode? Aside from the TSN setup, capacity, and timing issues, can’t training just treat the TSN as a black box for Training Exercises if a real TSN is not available. • So we need some Random Failures for missiles being launched, Blk IV missiles after launch, and for tasking? This could be tasked by the TWS TC. By doing this we would see random failures and see how the operators and systems perform.

  7. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEWTHEORY OF OPERATION • The TWS Training Coordinator (TWS TC) will post on a secure web site all data pertinent to the upcoming Exercise. This includes: • LP training inventory to be used • LP coordinates to be used for the Exercise • COMMS to be used and participating unit addresses • Strike Package Deviation rates • In launch sequence failure rates • Post launch failure rates • The LPs and the TSC/Backup TSC (BTSC)/LAC(s) will ready their systems for the training exercise according to the instructions on the secure web site

  8. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEWTHEORY OF OPERATION • The LPs will provide a Training INCOP report to the TSC/BTSC/LAC (includes the training inventory specified on the secure web site) • The TWS TC will issue the Training Exercise ATO to start the Exercise. • The TSC/BTSC/LAC perform Strike Planning on the ATO and when completed will send the Training Strike Package(s) (TrSP) to the LPs. The TrSP will include Communication plans for the BLK IV missiles tasked. The TrSP will also include any LPMP tasking required and CFF setup for the LP(s).

  9. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEWTHEORY OF OPERATION • The LP(s) receive and process the TrSP using the specified missions and the Training Inventory specified on the Secure Web page. The LP will report any actual TrSP Deviations to the TSC and will also have Deviation failures at the rate specified by the TWS TC. • Note: These Deviation failures will require the TSC to replan and possibly resend the SP or a new SP. • The LP will perform any LPMP tasked using the Training Threat data. This will include communication planning for the BLK IV missiles. • The LP will perform CFF (voice) tasking when received. • The LP will send Strike Coordination Overlays to the specified recipients. • The LP will perform Engagement Planning and Launch Preparation of the simulated missile(s) and will launch the missile at the specified time. The LP will have launch failures at the rate specified by the TWS TC. For any failures the LP will send a LER to the TSC. • Note: These launch failures will require the TSC to authorize Backup Tasking if available or to replan if required.

  10. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEWTHEORY OF OPERATION • After launch for BLK IV missiles, the AUR SIM will perform the inflight simulation for the missile by sending H&S, BDI, & BDII messages to the TSN and receiving IMMMs from the TSN. • The AUR SIM will receive and process IMMMs from the TSN for any missile whose Missile Subscriber ID it has. The AUR SIM will perform the required action(s) which include flexing to a new outcome, or Retargeting to a new target or Aimpoint Update to a new target and other actions specified in JCM 3900/114. • The AUR SIM will fail communications at the rate specified by the TWS TC. There will be two types of failures. One being the H&S is not sent, or an IMMM is not received. The second type is total comms with the missile is lost. • Note: These failures might cause the TSC to redirect other missiles to the target or to replan.

  11. TWS TRAININGA CONCEPTUAL VIEWTHEORY OF OPERATION • The Strike Controller, Alternate Strike Controller, and Missile Controller will be able to see the missiles under their control and perform any action specified in JCM 3900/114. • The LP(s) will send their Post Launch Report to the TSC/BTSC/LAC. • The TSC will collect the PLRs and report on the ATO • The LP will post its reconstruction data to the secure web site after completion of the Exercise.
