  3. Restoring the Planet • 22 of the worlds 50 most forested nations have increased the amount of woodland • Asia gained 1 million hectares (10,000 square meters) of forest between 2000 and 2005 • Tropical forest in El Salvador expanded more than 20 percent between 1992 and 2001

Leigh Lesnick • Social Life- Create new friendships and maintain relationships with family. • Material Life- Eventually earn enough money to take care of my family • Occupation- Use a degree in aerospace engineering to obtain a job in management or research. • Recreation- Swimming, being outdoors, playing the piano and being with friends

  5. Reduction of Toxins • The group of refrigerant called CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) were used in vehicle air conditioning systems prior to 1991. • These chemicals are green house gases and were found to be responsible for much of global warming! • General Motors is just one of the automobile companies that took the initiative to find another refrigerant-R134a • This refrigerant (R134a) is a much less potent greenhouse gas, and has 80% less global warming potential. • By using this alternative the estimated emissions of greenhouse gases from cars has decreased by 72%.

  6. Using clean energy • In response to the overwhelming use of nonrenewable resources to power businesses clean energy is now being used instead. • The National Alliance of Clean Energy Incubators is a group established in 2000 dedicated to “providing business and financial services tailored to the needs of the clean energy community. • Many companies that are committed to developing and commercializing clean energy. • America is on the track to becoming much more energy efficient

  7. Carl Phillips • Spiritual expectations- Christian, reading the Bible • State of Mind- I am a sane individual • Social life- Gain as many friends as possible and continue with old friends from high school • Educational- Finish college while working in a co-op and get a job that I enjoy very much.

  8. Consumption • People buying more items not because their old one broke or to show that they are helping the golden arrow but because new products offer are easier way to work and are more efficient then the ways they used to do. • People search for personal satisfaction • Increase the standard of living. • People today do more in 2min then people did in 3 hours all because of new and better technonlgy • Example: How long did it take families to make breakfast in the morning? How long did it take to harvest a field?

  9. Kate Kissane Personal- Like everyone else, I want happiness. I want to enjoy what I do everyday and know that I am doing something with my life that will bring joy to someone else. Social- I want to stay close to my family and my friends when I leave college and start a life for myself. Work- Currently I valet and cater in the summer. I am hoping to find a job somewhere close to home that has good financial benefits. Recreation- Going to the gym or running outside; I find exercising very relaxing.

  10. Disposal: a new goal to throw out less and reuse more challenges scientists • Recycling has always been encouraged. New scientific focus has been placed on creating materials that last for long periods of time that can also be reused. • Contaminated waters are being filtered to increase clean water supplies in industrialized countries. • Studies in the use of converting organic residues into chemical raw materials are underway. • Hokkaido University is conducting research on the uses of Catalysis and focusing on the fabrication of material and production of energy that won’t bring harm to the environment • With these efforts, we hope to reduce the waste sent to landfills or incinerated
