  2. SLCSB MATH ROUTINE K Formative Assessment A process for teachers and/or students to use assessment data to make adjustments in teaching and learning. *Kindergarten will transition to the Grade 1-2 Routine during 4th Quarter.

  3. Calendar(20 minutes) • Allows Kindergarteners to have a chance to practice and reinforce math skills • Suggested activities: • Positional vocabulary • Numbers 0 to 20 • Equations of the day • Compose and decompose numbers

  4. Rally Table • Provide a task which there are multiple possible responses. • In pairs, students take turns passing a paper and pencil or response board each writing ONE answer .

  5. Rally Table Think: What are some important strategies, structures, and skills to include during calendar math?

  6. Calendar Teacher Best Practices • Established Routine • Morning Circle • Meet and Greet • Interactive Lessons • Student assistant • Problem of the Day • typically involves all students • Graph, create number sentences, and other activities • Involve Math Music and Movement • Use Body to represent numbers • New concepts are introduced gradually • Ask questions • How many days until _________? • What day of the week will the 14th land on? • Involve Math Games • I have… Who has…

Setting A Purpose • Common Core State Standards provide clarity and consistency of learning across the country • Allows for states to share information and provide all students with an equal opportunity for an education to prepare them for the future • Allows for deep understanding of the subject and skills to apply their knowledge • Common Core do not describe all that can or should be taught
