The Jersey Shore Association for Human Resources is a SHRM affiliated chapter Healthcare Reform; It’s here to stay, how do I handle the changes?! • This presentation focuses on how the law is being implemented and how it changes the landscape of offering employer sponsored medical insurance. • Participants will learn: • What changes need to be made in how companies determine who is eligible for coverage. • How contributions need to be structured to avoid penalties and additional taxes. • Timelines of when parts of the law go into effect. • What are the listed “Essential Benefits” and how it affects your health plan. • How “Health Exchanges” will become the new way for individuals and some small employers to obtain their medical plan. • What notifications need to be made to employees and when. • You will start to understand the complexities of the law and how it is being implemented. The parameters of employer sponsored plans has changed. Regulations are being issued every week and failure to comply could mean significant tax penalties. How your company adjusts to these changes will have serious financial consequences. • About the Speaker: Desmond X. Slattery, Sr. VP, Bollinger Inc. • Desmond is a Senior Vice President with Bollinger, Inc. where he oversees Bollinger’s general agency division, the Slattery GA. Slattery GA offers sales and service support to brokers and their clients for individual, small, and large group medical and ancillary benefit plans. He uses 30 years of experience to monitor legislative and regulatory updates as the Chairman of the Legislative Council for the New Jersey Association of Health Underwriters (NJAHU). He lobbies before elected officials in both Trenton, NJ and Washington, DC on behalf of NJAHU. • Desmond began his career in the Health Insurance industry as a Broker Account Executive with Horizon BCBSNJ. In 1990 he joined Professional Group Marketing, Hawthorne, NY, as an Account Executive working with Brokers in NY, NJ, and CT. In 1994, Desmond joined forces with his father Jack and sister Deirdre to run their family-owned general agency, John J. Slattery Associates, Inc. In 2010, their agency merged with Bollinger, Inc., one of the nation’s largest privately owned insurance agencies with offices in CT, NY, NJ, and PA. Desmond is a graduate of the North Carolina State University, and holds a B.S. in Business.
