Scope of Work 1/2 • Collaboration agreement to test at CERN Super-FRS Magnets for the FAIR Project • (28) dipole magnets, coil cryostated, bath cooled, cold mass 2 tons, dimension 3 x 4 m, stored energy 0.5 MJ • (23) Multiplet 1 magnets, each composed of three quadrupole magnets and two corrector magnets, bath cooled, cold mass 45 t, dimensions 7x3x3.5 m, stored energy 1.5 MJ • (8) Multiplet 2 magnets, each composed of two quadrupole magnets , bath cooled, cold mass 35 t, stored energy 1.5 MJ L. Serio

  7. Scope of Work 2/2 • CERN scope of work: • Prepare at CERN a test facility adequate for the cryogenic testing of SUPER-FRS Magnets by refurbishing its existing cryogenic test facility located in the test hall n. 180 at CERN - Meyrin • Ensure operation*of the test facility for the tests • * technical availability • GSI scope of work: • Cover the cost of investment necessary for the refurbishing of the CERN test facility up to a maximum of 5'000'000 Euro • Deliver to CERN the magnets for the tests in a ready-to test state and ensure their transport back to GSI L. Serio

  8. Project Introduction: Requirements • Design a facility adequate for the testing of SFRS magnets • Make extensive use of the existing CERN infrastructure • Refurbish the available equipment • Existing limitations and space • Testing according to the magnet production schedule • Design the test station to perform the following activities: • Preparation and installation of magnet on test bench and connect it to the relevant services • Check electrical integrity of the magnet and its instrumentation at warm • Cool-down of magnet • Cold powering of magnet • Magnetic field measurements, heat-load measurements • Warm-up of magnet • Check electrical integrity of the magnet and its instrumentation at warm • De-mounting of magnet from test-bench • Storage of raw data • Perform data analysis and report magnet performance L.
