  4. What is Output? Computers process and organize data (input) into information (output) Output – data that has been processed into a useful form While working with a computer, a user encounters 4 basic types of output: Text – letters, reports, blogs, news, stock quotes Graphics – logos, charts, clip art, photos Audio – podcasts, live broadcasts, online radio Video – Youtube, sporting events
  5. What is Output? An output device is any type of hardware component that conveys information to one or more people Commonly used output devices include: Display devices Printers Speakers Headphones Data projectors SMART board Monitor

Display Devices Monitors are a type of display device An LCD monitor is a desktop monitor that uses a liquid crystal display to produce images These monitors produce sharp, flicker-free images A liquid crystal display (LCD) uses a liquid compound to present info on a display device They typically contain fluorescent tubes that emit light waves toward the liquid-crystal cells, which are sandwiched between 2 sheets of material

Display Devices The quality of an LCD monitor/screen depends primarily on its resolution, response time, brightness, dot pitch and contrast ratio Resolution is the # of horizontal and vertical pixels in a display device A plasma monitor is a display device that uses gas plasma technology, which sandwiches a layer of gas between 2 glass plates
  8. Printers A printer is an output device that produces text and graphics on a physical medium such as paper Nonimpact printer Ink-jet Photo Laser Thermal Mobile Label Plotter Impact printer

Output Devices for Physically Challenged Users For users with mobility, hearing, or vision disabilities, many different types of output devices are available Hearing-impaired users can instruct programs to display words instead of sounds The use of the Magnifier function in Windows enlarges text and other items in a window on the screen
