  2. A GRACIOUS GENEALOGY PART 18 - LUKE 3:23-38

  3. Outline • Commonality of the Characters • Covenants • Completion of the Mission

  4. Big Idea The diversity of the lineage of the Christ is a testimony of the breadth of God’s grace and mercy in order to accomplish His divine purpose of redemption.

  5. Commonality of the Characters

  6. Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

  7. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

  8. Romans 5:12 ...sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—

  9. 1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die,

  10. Covenants

  11. Genesis 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

  12. Genesis 9:9,11-13 “Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you, ...

  13. Genesis 9:9,11-13 I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations:

  14. Genesis 9:9,11-13 I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

  15. Genesis 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

  16. Genesis 15:4-5 ...your very own son shall be your heir.” 5 And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”

  17. Genesis 17:4-5 “Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. 5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

  18. Genesis 28:13-14 “I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring.

  19. Genesis 28:13-14 Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

  20. Genesis 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.

  21. 2 Samuel 7:12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

  22. 2 Samuel 7:16 And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’ ”

  23. Completion of the Mission

  24. Luke 1:35 “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.

  25. Hebrews 2:14-15 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

  26. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  27. Hebrews 9:22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

  28. Hebrews 2:17-18 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

  29. 1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.

  30. Romans 5:17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

  31. John 4:22 ...we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”
