Assessment and Prior Learning

Increasingly students deviate form the fixed curriculum route:

  • External projects

  • Use work experience

  • Prior education

    Central issue:

How to determine a student’s competencies  ask for proof  virtual portfolio …

Assessment using imported portfolio

Architecture

Students may have several portfolios, files on pc/internet

Teachers develop assessments, demand proof, evaluate

Portfolio viewer + Competency

Database + Assessement System

Students can use enhanced portfolios for….

Lessons learned

  • A portfolio used in organisation A is only partially relevant for organisation B: competencies of degree courses differ!

  • Teachers are not interested in viewing complete portfolios: they only want to see relevant files  proof for competencies specified

  • E-portfolio standards are important for opening up portfolios (in a portfolio viewer)
