Detailed Roadmap 2009-10: • 98 students studied in IIT Roorkee • Faculty and staff recruitment from Feb onwards • Renovation of transit campus in Mandi town • 2010-11: • 2 batches of BTech students (215) in transit campus in Mandi town • MS/PhD scholars (20) • Master plan for main Kamand campus • Renovation of old buildings in Kamand for labs, residences

  10. … Detailed Roadmap 2011-12: • Design for Phase 1, construction start • Interim (bamboo?) buildings in Kamand • Students shift to Kamand campus as interim buildings get ready • Improve access roads to Kamand, air connectivity via Bhuntar 2012 -13: • First permanent buildings ready and occupied • About half of operations shift to Kamand 2013 -14: • Full-scale operation in Kamand campus • Rapid expansion of student strength • Completion of Phase 1 construction

Principles • No powered vehicles for students • Minimal use of powered vehicles in academic areas by anyone • Academic space (faculty offices, research scholar space, research labs) designed to facilitate inter-disciplinary research and collaborations • A School does not “own” a building • Schools share buildings • A faculty’s office, his/her research scholars and labs, meeting rooms, office facilities and canteen within easy walking distance • Uniform office size and pattern

  12. … Principles • Provision for outdoor classes depending on the weather • Spaces for informal gatherings of a few people • Outdoors: in the sun in winter, shaded in summer • Indoors • Subdued outdoor lighting, provide safety while preserving views of the stars • Facilities that attract the public and visitors to be located close to the entrances/public roads • Decentralised administration units located close to the faculty/students whom they serve

  13. … Principles • Optimum use of available natural resources • Architectural forms that are sustainable, and in harmony with the natural setting and the traditions of the region • Flexible Master Plan to cater to unanticipated needs in the next 100 years • Classrooms, labs and conference centre with handicap access • Student numbers and building areas given are indicative only, the consultant is expected to think creatively and recommend maximum student numbers and commensurate building areas
