  1. Piranhas!!! Pygocentrus nattereri (scientific name) Serrasalmus (genus name)

  2. Population • The piranha population depends on the water level in which it lives . For instances if the Nile River’s water level were only 2 ft. during drought season then that would mean that the population would be very low , and if the Nile River’s water level were about 15 ft. then the piranha population would be very high . Reason being is that piranhas need about 12 ft. of water in order to lay it’s eggs , with out this much water the baby’s wouldn’t be able to grow appropriately and most of them would die!!!!!

  3. appearance • Piranhas can range in color . Some can be silver with orange bellies and , throats. Others are mostly black . They have deep bodies , and sawed- edged bellies , and large blunt heads with very strong jaws bearing triangular razor sharp teeth that cut like knives!!! Most Piranhas can grow to be sixty centimeters in length but most are different. The White Piranha can grow to be 50-55 centimeters long , this is the largest of the piranha species .

  4. Young • Piranha young are about 2 inches in length when the first hatch . When their about 2.5 inches they begin to devour their egg case , this is because , they get very hungry , and sometimes they will even eat their own parents when they get weak!!!! Once they reach between 12-15 centimeters they will soon start to go after other smaller fish . Their diet mostly consist of fish , small worms , and other vegetation . Their vegetation is much different because , their stomachs don’t fully develop and their not use to eating such huge things .

  5. Appetite • Piranhas are carnivores WRONG!!!!! Their actually omnivores . Piranhas feed on a wide variety of foods , they will eat vegetables in one stage of their life even though they are known to have meaty aggression . They mostly dine on dead or alive fish , as well as other meaty foods . They also eat various types of insects , and worms . Piranhas mainly feed on crabs , small fish , lizards , mammals , and insects . Some species of piranhas feed more on plant than animal matter . What piranhas eat depends on their habitat .
