OBJECTIVE Explain the importance of each cell organelle by creating a Frayer vocabulary model for each. HW • Rough draft due Thursday: Detailed paragraph (typed or neatly written on separate paper) • Describe how the organelles in a cell work • together to make and use proteins. Include at • least 5 different organelles in your essay. AGENDA • Create a master list of all the cell organelles & functions • Frayer vocabulary sentences and analogies

  3. Frayer Model EXAMPLE Amembrane-bound sac in eukaryotic cells that stores or transports the products of metabolism in the cell and is sometimes the site for the breaking down of metabolic wastes. A little bubble with a membrane around it that transports stuff around the cell VESICLE A vesicle is like a mail truck because it picks up materials and delivers them somewhere else OBJECTIVE Explain the importance of each cell organelle by creating a Frayer vocabulary model for each.

Cell Function Analogies • With your neighbor, brainstorm possible analogies of how a cell operates like a city for each of the organelles • Write these down in your notebook to be able to use them for homework! • You should be drawing/writing the Frayer models directly into your notebook! What did you come up with? OBJECTIVE Demonstrate your understanding of how all the cell organelles function together by creating a visual cell city. HW: • Rough draft due Thursday: Detailed paragraph (typed or neatly written on separate paper) • Describe how the organelles in a cell work • together to make and use proteins. Cell as a city! • In your lab groups, you are to create a poster that demonstrates the analogies that you came up with yesterday about the functions of organelles • The poster must have a diagram for each analogy as well as a small text box that explains the analogy • PLAN WELL – each group only gets one poster-sized paper • There will be prizes for: • Most creative • Most accurate • Most artistic

  9. Thursday 6 OctoberTopic: Plant & Animal cells DO NOW • Which organelles were very easy to come up with an analogy for? What were they? • Which were more difficult to create an analogy for? What did you come up with? • How well do you feel your group did in the competition? Looking back, how would you have done things differently? OBJECTIVE • Explain the difference between plant and animal cells by identifying 3 structures not found in both types of cell • Provide constructive criticism for protein essays AGENDA • Venn Diagram • Objective tracking • Peer editing (if time) HW • Finish your protein essay (due the next time you have class next week)

QUESTS! • Your grade is a ratio of all the individual scores that you got on each objective and the writing portion • You may re-take it during office hours or tomorrow during lunch. • The retake grade will REPLACE the original grade (up to a max score of 90%) • If you feel that your grade is not an accurate representation of your understanding of the material, I am happy to discuss it HOWEVER the requirement is that you take it home and look it over carefully first.

Progress Reports • Tomorrow you will be getting your progress report grades along with a list of all the assignments that you’re missing • IN ADDITION to working on the essay (paragraph of how a protein is made), you are to ALSO complete any missing assignments! • If you can swear on your soul you turned something in, check the no-name sheets on the board

  15. Friday 7OctoberTopic: Cell Lab!! DO NOW Complete the pre-lab questions OBJECTIVE Identify various cells and cell components by creating wet mount slides from different organisms. HW • Finaldraft due Thursday: Detailed paragraph (typed or neatly written on separate paper). Describe how the organelles in a cell work together to make and use proteins. Include at least5 different organelles in your essay. • Complete any unfinished work (cell lab analysis questions, missing hw, etc) AGENDA • Progress report announcement • Poster winners • LAB!!!

Progress Reports • Progress reports will go out AT THE END OF THE DAY • Look at the missing work box, and make sure you complete the assignments over the weekend • Some assignments were done in your notebook AFTER notebook checks, and I am aware of that. I put it on the progress report so you know it should be completed by this point.
