  3. ‘By the age of 21, a young male who has been in this (NEET) group for six months is three times more likely than average to have mental health issues, five time more likely to have a criminal record and six times less likely to have any qualifications’

  4. Aims & Objectives • Discuss methods of supporting the transition of potential NEET • Look at local support or services • Agree actions for supporting progression

  6. Identify Specific Issues • Split into groups and discuss • 5 key issues for potential NEET learners progressing from school into College, WBL or Employment within Croydon • what support or services are available for managing transition? • Identify good practices for managing transition

  7. Solutions • Improved measurement approaches • Early identification and intervention • Effective links, partnership and multi agency approaches • Effective data sharing • Resources conducive to good practice • Meeting needs through targeted, flexible practices • Good procedures for management and accountability

  8. NEET profile • Higher proportion of males • Registered to take free school meals • Low literacy and numeracy • Some ethnic minority groups • Parents poor or unemployed • Parents low academic achievement • Carers, • Teenage parents, • Homeless, • Have been in or are in care, • Have a disability, • Misuse of drugs or alcohol • Involved in offending.
