Flanked- (v) located on each side. The front porch was flanked by pots of flowers, making it look bright and welcoming.

  6. Barrio Boy (page 523) is an excerpt from the autobiography of Ernesto (Ernie) Galarza. The excerpt from the book, Barrio Boy, depicts one of this author's experiences growing up in America as a Mexican immigrant. In this story, Ernesto is a young boy who speaks only Spanish. He enters his new American school and must learn an entirely new language. This story focuses on the feelings of the young boy and shares the challenges and victories the new Mexican American faces as he accepts his new surroundings without being made to give up his Mexican identity.
