  1. Questions for Evaluation Unit 31: Social action Anti-Social Networking Elliot Knight

  2. What was the original purpose of your social action film? • The original purpose of my social action video was to show how addictive social networking is and to show statistics on things that could people could relate to.Also to show the damage it has on everyone and to see if it’s hard to stop for at least a week.

  3. Do you think your final product is fit for this purpose? • Yes of course, it covers all the area I wanted to cover, their strong statistics and peoples own experiences on going without social networking.

  4. What was the message of your film? • The message of my film was to not let social networking take over your life and distract you from more important things. Also to just let people be aware of the huge facts and figures on the topic.

  5. How clearly do you think you have communicated this message to your audience? • I would say clear enough, people vaguely already know about the incredible mass of people on social networking sites. I think the message will be easier to get across to the audience because the topic is such a global thing and everyone has an interest in it. Along with my strong research and evidence from good resources with make the message clearer for the audience.

  6. Who was the original target audience for this film? • Honestly, it was everyone. All ages. Social networking (as I said before) is just a massive thing now, so all the things said in the film is towards everyone. Children, teenagers, adults, businesses etc...

  7. Do you think your final product is appropriate for this audience? • Yes I do, although you may think that I’m just being lazy by saying everyone is my audience, which isn’t at all specific, but I cant say anything else apart from everyone. So, yes I do think my final production is appropriate for everyone. The same message applies to everyone.

  8. What techniques have you used in your social action, and how successful do you think you have been? • The techniques I have used within this film are: • Raise awareness – I think this is the thing I have done most. I have done this by showing a lot of shocking facts and big numbered figures and also a first person view on how someone dealt with going without social networking for a week. • Change attitudes – I may have changed a lot of attitudes. Certainly I think people may have a different attitude towards the amount of usage they have on social networking along with how may times a day they are on a site, also I may have given people a clearer view on the power and control social networking has on you and people may have changed there lives a bit for an improvement. • Provide information – As I’ve mention many times before, I’ve provides loads of good strong information that have come from good resources like primary research and also secondary research. I’ve provided a lot of good information to get my message clear to the audience. • Strengthen communities and relationships – my film may have strengthened people’s relationships with each other. So instead of looking down at your phone constantly trying to socialize in that way, instead people may have socialized more in person and made more of a bond that way. • I feel that I have been very successful with all these techniques and I have no regrets.

  9. How effective do you think the content of your film is? • My film is just short of 12 minutes; therefore there can be a lot of information and good important footage in that time. I guess a lot of the stuff is repeated but in a different perspective and is explained in different ways and angles. I think my content is of good quality from reliable resources. My film is of a good enough time limit to get my message clearly across to my audience.

  10. Who have you shown your social action film to? • I have shown my film to 2 people: My dad and one of my best friends.

  11. Why did you choose these people to present the work to? • I showed it to my dad because he is a smart man and always gives me good and bad criticism on how I can make my work better and what is bad and good. • I showed my good friend Jack because obviously he’s a close friend but also uses social networking sites excessively.

  12. What impact has your work had upon the people who have watched it? • It had no impact on my dad because he doesn’t use social networking although he found it very interesting. • It didn’t have an impact on Jack because he’s so hooked to the sites and wasn’t going to change that because that how we socialize now days. He found the film interesting and found out things he didn’t know and was shocked by certain things but this wasn’t enough for him to go against social networking. I agree.

  13. When you/your group recorded the footage and sound for your social action, was this achieved to a high technical standard? If not, what would you do better next time? • It was below average I would say. We found out good information on how our 2 peers got on with going a week without social networking sites and what they did instead and how they coped but I think the camera should have been a two shot of the interview, the footage is just the interviewer talking and you cant see the interviewees at all, you can just here there voices, this isn’t great.

  14. How well have you have edited your film together using Premier? • I think I have edited on an average level, I have put together good pieces of information that link on to another piece of footage of a photo. I put in catchy music. I will admit that I should have shortened the interview so only certain parts of it was shown because I have not done this, when the interview is in motion, it seems very dull and boring. That also comes onto making it shorter; it feels a bit too long therefore more boring.

  15. Does your filmlook how you wanted it to? • In some ways no and in some ways yes. No because there wasn’t a two shot during the interview, which was vital in this situation, also the pictures at the start are showed for a short limit of time when there is a lot of good information to be read on the pictures but viewers will not have enough time to read all of it. One other thing is the lighting when doing the interview I think it was too bright at the time and when I tried to do colour correction, I could not get it the same as each clip. • Yes because I’m happy with the videos and information I have found out as well as the first person interview with 2 of our peers. I like the music I have put into this production.

  16. Overall • Overall I am happy with what I have achieved within this Unit, there were always going to be hard tasks along the way and finding the topic un-interesting didn’t help but I am happy with what I have done but as always there is room for improvement.

  17. Oh, and one last thing. One more thing just to prove how powerful social networking sites are when you have a electronic device near you. I had trouble staying focused on doing this piece of work due to the 6 social networking sites I have on my phone. So even when I was typing this piece of work about the worsts of social networking I was being distracted by the sites. This is proof, it’s a massive distraction with work.
