  4. Define: Preconception • What did your group come up with? • An idea or opinion formed before having the evidence for its truth.

  5. Photographer Robert Leon -Look at the photos in the folder on your desk. -Use the back of your worksheet to analyze these four photos. Write down a few words or a sentence about each using this lens: Do you recognize some of the cultures that Leon is trying to represent here? What are the things that help you in making this identification?

  13. Understanding Iran In today’s class, we will read, analyze, and present on different parts of Iranian Culture. Because our next novel takes place in Iran during their revolution in the 1970s and 1980s, understanding this culture’s way of life is important to fully comprehend our book.

Identifying Roles Reader: Responsible for reading the article out loud to the group while the other members annotate the text Visual Manager: Responsible for organizing the group’s summary on chart paper Chief of Presentation: Responsible for presenting the group’s findings to the rest of the class

  15. Timeline: • Identify group roles, read article, and annotate article: 20 Minutes • Organize ideas and brainstorm: 5 minutes • Create chart paper visual for class presentation: 10 minutes • Share out your presentation to class: 2 minutes per group

  21. Comic Vocabulary • Comic: Sequential, Visual Art • The Gutter: The physical space between the panels of comics • Closure: The time between comics—what actually happens

  22. Comic Options • Take a look at the different comics on your desk. • Don’t worry so much about reading every single word. Look at the words, pictures, and events happening in the comics and try to identify which comics appeal most to you vs. those comics that do not appeal so much.
