  1. ALCPG-Cal Group “Open Questions” Ray & Dhiman • Detector R&D • Simulation • General • Upcoming Meeting at Victoria

  2. Detector R&D • Timing in the Si/W ECal • Warm/cold LC choice • Forward calorimetry • Technology • Timing • configuration • The DHCal technology • Hybrid designs • Progress in scintillator and crystal designs • A design for a Large detector ?

  3. Simulations (Dhiman) • more realistic geometry: a. Non-projective in LCDG4. It exists as a fork (separate executable from the standard LCDG4). Need to extend the XML DTD to allow merger. Scheme understood and accepted at the ANL workshop, awaiting implementation. Should happen well before Victoria. b. Non-cylindrical volumes. Also requires extension of the XML DTD. Should be straightforward, but scheme has yet to be thought out. Will have to wait until a. is completed. Not likely to happen before Victoria. • DAQ simulation - modeling of cross-talk, electronic noise, inefficiencies, digitization etc. NIU has just started on this, and hopes to produce a preliminary version soon, but probably not before Victoria. • Switching from sio to lcio. LCS (again a detour from LCDG4 - all are planned to be merged back together) produces lcio, and analysis templates exist - just the sio-based algorithms need to be ported to work with lcio. This is well underway - one of the major achievements at ANL, should mature fairly soon. • Simulation of forward calorimeters (it is probably better to discuss this under forward calorimetry)

  4. General • Optimization of detector parameters via simulation • Segmentation • Radius • B field • Test Beams • Separate tech. tests ? • combined: • CALICE • other configurations?

  5. Victoria • 4 cal parallel sessions • 1 combined cal + trk + sim ? • The next Montpellier international confab. • Short summaries? • Discussion of R&D organization, test beams ?
