  2. RegularVerbs • A regularverb described as a word that shows action or a state of being. • The dog bit the man. • Look, move, talk

  3. IrregularVerbs • Irregular verbs are verbs that change to the past tense in unexpected ways. • fly, flew, flown; • lend, lent; • go, went, gone. • 1. By changing a vowel; • 2. By changing a final letter; • 3. By not changing at all.

  4. Adverbs • Adverbs are traditionally defined as words that describe verbs. • Adverbs end in • –ly. • how?    when?    where?     why? • Sara easily lifted the backpack. • How did Sara lift the backpack? Easily • Easily is the adverb

  5. Prepositions • Prepositions are words which begin prepositional phrases. • A prepositional phrase is a group of words containing a preposition, a noun or pronounobjectof the preposition, and any modifiers of the object. • Ex.: after, below, beneath, under, through, inside, in front of.

  6. Coordinating Conjunctions • Conjunctions are words used as “joiners.” • A coordinating conjunction joining two independent clauses creates a compound sentence and requires a comma before the coordinating conjunction • Ex.: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so • Miguel ate the popcorn, so Aubrey at the chocolate.

Coordinating Conjunctions • Conjunctions are words used as “joiners.” • A coordinating conjunction joining two independent clauses creates a compound sentence and requires a comma before the coordinating conjunction • Ex.: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so • Miguel ate the popcorn, so Aubrey at the chocolate.
