  1. INTERNATIONAL MATERIAL DATA SYSTEM - IMDS

  2. Contents • IMDS Overview • Registration • Data Usage • Client System Requirements • IMDS Data Structure • Example Of Data Structures • Workflow Process • Input / Submission Process • Example of IMDS Breakdown • TMC Request To Suppliers By E-mail • Caution • Receive Progress Report From TMC

  3. IMDS Overview • What Is IMDS? International Material Data Base • In future every suppliers... • May be responsible for the product for its entire life because of the national and international environmental legislation • Will have to provide information about the material used in the product in order to • Deconstruct the commonly used materials • Provide input for scientific analysis of the compositions • Classifying levels of danger related to the material • Necessity of detailed knowledge about the composition of the materials used – IMDS • Standardized process for every Car Manufacturers and the supplier

  4. Registration

  5. Data Usage • SOC contain status confirmation (EU ELV Directive) • Material Marking confirmation (EU ELV Directive) • Material weight is used to calculate Recyclability / Recoverability Rate (EU ELV Directive) • Material weight is used to calculate how much of the vehicle material would be be wasted (Japan Recycling Law) • Material weight is used to evaluate how much energy would be used from the vehicle birth until vehicle scrap (Toyota Life Cycle Assessment)

  6. Client System Requirements • Window PC • Internet Access • Web Browser Internet Explorer 5.5 Netscape 7.1 <PC Specification> • CPU : • Intel Pentium II 350Mhz • Memory : 128MB

  7. IMDS Data Structure • Component is a complete assembly or a component that builds up a complete part.A Component must have at least one material • Sub-Component A component on a lower level is usually called a sub-component.When used it must have at least one material associated to it . The sub-component must be descriptive. The total weight of the material under sub-component must equal the total sub-component weight.A semi component is described by the same symbol as a component • Semi Component A semi-component is not the same thing as a sub-component within a part.It is a semi-finished product e.g steel , coil , which will go through further process steps(cutting , stamping ) to make it a finished component. There must be at least one material attached to a semi-component.

  8. IMDS Data Structure (cont) • Material A material consist of basic substances or other materials only. The material name should always define the material and not be generic.Material name should be chosen form existing standards .Materials consist of at least one basic substance or a mixture of basic substances. The materials should add up to a 100% disclosure. • Basic Substances A basic substance should always be attached to a material. It is not allowed to attach a basic substance to a component or semi-component.

  13. TMC Request to Supplier by E-Mail • Request E-Mail sent to Supplier from TMC directly • Part List (as below) attached by a delivery part to only IMDS Contact Person * Notification E-Mail only to Daily Contact Person • CC sent to PIC in Toyota Group Local Company Suppliers must input data by a delivery part as requested

  14. CAUTION • Supplier Code–Supplier must use their S/C written in Request E-mail or Parts List attached to it. • Different or Forgetting Minor– PEIS can’t accept Data which has mistake with Minor Code from requested P/N. • Due Date – This is not the due date to submit, to complete data including “ERROR CHECK” • Requested Data Submission – We need only Data we requested. We don’t need data not requested. • Same P/N with Different ID– While being under error checking, supplier send the same data with different IMDS ID again because they found some error by themselves. PEIS can’t accept due to the double count for payment to EDS. We also see some suppliers re-submit the same part even though it was accepted before. PEIS can’t accept this case too. • Copy and New Version Function - When trying to correct errors, please do not use “Copy and Copy” function. “Copy and New Version” is the correct way to update IMDS Data. • Material or Semi- Component Send - PEIS can’t recognize if suppliers send just “Material” or Semi-Component” Data without adding them under the component (Top-Level as Requested). Supplier must be careful with the following things on TOYOTA Data Collection,

  16. Receive The Progress Sheet from TMC (cont) • Region Code & Supplier Codeare mixed to the 8 digits code, so called “Supplier Code” on this work. • Requested Date – The date requested for the first time for the Part • D/L – Downloaded Date (Normally the next day of Suppliers input) • Received Date– Error Checked Date • Different Minor – Received Date of Different Minor Code from Requested P/N • Error Contents – P = Normal Error, M = Material Error, S = SOC Error, W = SMS Weight Error
