  3. What’s the scope for improvement? Capture the complexity of the local population Engagement across the whole process Communicating the outcomes of the JSNA Utilise existing consultation data Community and third sector engagement Engaging with local networks, groups and forums Active dialogue with the community New PPI strategy Social marketing and the NHSI brand

Goals and outcomes to achieve • The goals… • To empower local people to voice their needs • To engage with and listen to the third sector • To foster greater local ownership of the JSNA process and outcomes • To maintain on-going local engagement in the JSNA cycle • The outcomes… • Priorities that reflect the needs of the local population • Increased relevance of services for local people • Improved uptake, quality and sustainability of services • Stronger relationships with the local community and the third sector

Challenges to face • Diverse and transient population –getting to the hard to reach and ensuring broad representation • Resources - genuine engagement takes time and money • Refining the scope • Building in the soft data; quantitative v. qualitative • Assimilating competing priorities • How will we know it is a success?

  6. What help will we need? • Learning from the success of others • Support and engagement from local community organisations, groups, networks • Senior level support across LA and NHS to raise the profile and ensure internal engagement • Expertise in community consultation • Easy to use toolkits e.g. for evaluation and utilising soft data
