  4. What is Content Management? • ‘Content’ is defined as: • Documents related to administrative functions (Novasis) • Student applications, transcripts, other docs • Documents "maintained" to meet state and federal requirements • Information utilized in distance learning (WebCT)

Content Management @ Villanova • Applicable to the University • A decentralized atmosphere requires an integrated system • The Current Problem: • Villanova University has limited capabilities in comprehensively managing digital content • Digital content as “Digital Assets” • University assets are extremely valuable • Appropriate Content Management will preserve, secure, and enhance our access to valuable assets

Forms one university ‘silo’ of information. • Web Content Management (WCM): One module of a ECM system that focuses specifically on web data (website). Can be purchased separately from ECM to manage only web content.
