  1. Learning To Wait On God by Pastor Fee Soliven Psalm 62:5-8 Sunday Morning January 12, 2014

  2. Psalm 62:5-8 5 My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.

  3. Isaiah 64:4 4 For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him.

  4. Psalm 139:1-6 1 O LORD, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.

  5. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. 5 You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.

  6. 1 Peter 3:12-15 12 For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil." 13 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled."

  7. 1. To Ready the Circumstances

  8. Psalm 106:13-15 13 They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel, 14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tested God in the desert. 15 And He gave them their request, But sent leanness into their soul.

  9. 2. To Purify our Motives

  10. Philippians 4:5-7 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

  11. 3. To Protect us From Making Mistakes

  12. Matthew 4:1-7 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

  13. 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” 5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down.

  14. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’” 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”

  15. 4. To make the Greatest Impact for Our Lives

  16. 1. Manipulate The Situation

  17. 2. Quit Praying

  18. 3. Wait and Watch God Work in Our Behalf

  19. Proverbs 3:5-6 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

  20. 1. Trust God’s best only comes in His way and His time. We won’t always understand or appreciate what He’s doing, but we must trust Him and obey His directions.

  21.  2. Humility Waiting upon the Lord also requires a humble spirit that acknowledges that His way is better than ours.

  22. 3. Patience God is not an errand boy who follows our instructions. On the contrary, we’re the ones who must wait for Him to provide exactly what He’s planned at just the right moment. Although the wait may be long, His best is always worth the delay.

  23. 4. Courage Isaiah 41:10 10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'

  24. The temptation to Follow Our Schedule We must keep our minds focused on what God desires, not on what we want.

  25. 2. The Temptation to Yield to the Pressure of Others People may be quick to offer advice, but we must follow God’s will, not theirs.

  26. 3. The Temptation to Be Afraid We may wonder whether the Lord’s way could work for us. There is no reason to fear because He protects and defends His children when they walk in His will.

  27. What if we Fail to Wait for God’s Timing?

  28. We Step out of the Will of God Altering or adjusting the Lord’s clear directions is an act of rebellion and will result in His loving discipline.

  29. 2. We Delay His Blessings When we go our own way, God doesn’t bless our disobedience.

  30. 3. We Bring Pain and Suffering Upon Ourselves Trying to adjust the Lord’s plan by stepping ahead or doing what we deem reasonable never improves the situation, but instead, causes more problems.

  31. 4. We Experience Confusion When we don’t follow God’s will, we wonder what’s happening in our lives.

  32. 5. We Cause other People to Suffer A decision to sidestep the Lord’s way affects others because they share in the consequences of our disobedience.

  33. 6. We Subject Ourselves to Financial Difficulties If we don’t wait for the Lord to provide in His way and time, we may make unwise decisions we can’t afford.

  34. God will Show His Goodness to Us Lamentations 3:25-26 25 The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him. 26 It is good that one should hope and wait quietly For the salvation of the LORD.

  35. 2. He Will Answer Our Prayers Psalm 40:1-3 1 I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. 2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. 3 He has put a new song in my mouth--Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD.

  36. 3. We’ll See the Fulfillment of our Faith when We Obey Him Isaiah 49:23 23 Kings and queens will serve you and care for all your needs. They will bow to the earth before you and lick the dust from your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord. Those who trust in me will never be put to shame.”

  37. 4. He Will Enable us Conquer Our Struggles Psalm 37:34 34 Wait on the LORD, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

  38. 5. We’ll Experience God’s Peace if We Walk in His Will Philippians 4:4-7 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,

  39. with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
