  2. Welcome The 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film, The Wizard of Oz, is about Dorothy who meets three other characters along her way to the Emerald City where they hope to find their treasures. Their companionship and team efforts are the foundation for the success of their journey along the Yellow Brick Road. The strengths and obstacles of these four characters in the movie are similar to the journey of developing a district math curriculum.

SBCSC Background: Journey • Fall 2013 – Launch • Winter/Summer 2014 – Vertical alignment review of Learning Targets • Fall/Spring 2015 - Finalizing the Lesson Plans & Assessments drafts for review by all faculty • Summer 2015 – Introduce Faculty to the NEW Math Maps • Fall 2015 – Encouraging/Enforcing the use of the online Maps • Winter/Spring 2016 – Collect feedback to adjust the Curriculum

  4. Purpose of Math Guides • To facilitate positive hands-on math units, lessons and resources • Provides a framework for instruction of Indiana State Academic math standards • Sets up a curriculum map to address all high priority math standards prior to the state assessments

  5. CURRICULUM MAPPING The Learning Design work determines the WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, and WHO (grade level) The curriculum structure will describe what MUST be taught to have consistency The Learning Design will not determine the HOW, or curriculum practice that takes place in the classroom.

  7. Corporation Maps - the Framework K12 SBCSC Math Maps – include content, skills, standards and more that everyone in a grade level agree will be taught and implemented. They are the non-negotiable content, skills and assessments, linked to IAS/CCRS standards. *Based on the Indiana Academic Standards (IAS/CCRS) *Provides the framework -- the “WHAT” for teaching/learning *Provides a common language *Offers an ongoing tool to diagnose and improve our skills *Articulates the expectations for each grade level

TOOLS • Understanding CCRS through alignment tasks (i.e. Scrabble) • CCRS high priority standards in each unit • Unit resources: Summaries, Essential Questions, CCRS standards, outcomes, vocabulary, assessments, Catalog of Lessons and much more • Video guides/introductory interviews • Q & A Frequently Asked guide

  9. Obstacles & Successes • Budget allotments • Team member shifts • State Standard changes • Administrative direction/long term planning • Assessment connections • Changes in time lines/expectations • Communication clarity • Administrative personal changes

Sustainability through Collaborative Review Conversations: • K12 Math Unit updates • Regular K12 Development team meetings • Revisions to unit frameworks/web connections • New K12 Math Textbook Adoption process • New IC/HS Math Courses • New IC/HS unit assessments • Reflective praxis frameworks
