  3. My Split Open Mind On the “before the sinking of the S.S. Hato” side of my split open mind, I show how Phillip never really thought about survival before. I included a picture of pirates to show how Phillip is an imaginative young boy and a photo of a family to illustrate that he spent time with his mother and father on Curacao. This side of Phillip’s mind shows that he is a normal, carefree young boy who enjoys playing with friends. He has never really worried about survival before. On the “after the sinking of the S.S. Hato” side of my split open mind, I illustrate how Phillip’s thoughts have turned toward confusion and survival.
