Standards • Illinois State Goal 3: Write to communicate for a variety of purposes Learning Standard C: Students who meet the standard can communicate ideas in writing to accomplish a variety of purposes. Performance Descriptor 11: Compose informational writing (narrative, expository, persuasive, argumentative) that supports a topic or thesis statement with well-articulated evidence.

Questions to consider • What kinds of jobs will Pakistani students be/not be prepared for? • What kinds of jobs will you be prepared for? • What are major social and global problems that arise out of a country’s having a poor school system? • What responsibility do you have to take full advantage of the digital literacy programs offered to you? • What digital literacy skills do you already possess?

  9. Desktop • Desktop – The most common type of computer, one that is set upo to operate in an office or a home. • Should include: • a basic processing unit (System Unit) • Monitor • Modem • CD drive • USB drive • Printer • And some type of backup storage

Laptop (a portable computer) • Will contain a combination of the capabilities metioned for the desktop • Another option is a docking station that allows a laptop to plug into a unit at an office or home • Gives the capability of using laptop as the basic processing unit • Still abel to enoy the use of a larger monitor and a full-sized keyboard

  12. Software • Software is the programs and other operating information used by a computer • The software on a computer is purchased in addition to the computer • Software is updated, edited, and improved all the time • Important to check for updates on software loaded on your computer

Software continued… • Three main types of computer software: • Programming software – programmers use it to develop the programming languages necessary to run computer software. • System Software – offers a protective shield to all software applications. • Also provides support to the physical components of computers. • Coordinates all external devices of computer system like printer, keyboard, displays, etc.

Software continued… • Application software – used for commercial purpose • Widely used in educational, business and medical fields • Computer games are the most popular forms of application software • Industrial automation, databases, business software and medical software prove to be of great help in the respective fields • Educational software is widely used in education institutes across the globe
