Demographic breakdown Total population of Logan Square Community Area: 82, 715 (extrapolated from 2000 Census ) Hispanic/Latino: 53,833 (65.1%) Black/African American: 4,999 (6.0%) American Indian/Alaska Native: 462 (0.6%) White alone: 40,073 (48.4%) Asian Alone : 1,155 (1.4.%) Some other race alone: 31,502 (38.1%) Two or more races: 4,459 (5.4%)

  3. Landmarks Historical and Architectural Logan Theatre: Originally a vaudeville palace, now a second run movie palace; recently restored.

  4. Illinois Centennial Column Built in 1918 at the intersection of Logan Boulevard, Kedzie Boulevard, and Milwaukee Avenue to mark the 100th anniversary of the state of Illinois’ entry into the Union.

  5. Logan Boulevard Named for Civil War General John Logan, founder of Memorial Day, and namesake of Logan Square. Logan Boulevard is the northern most part of Chicago’s Boulevard system, sometimes called the Emerald necklace: which extends as far south as Jackson Park.

  7. Schools • Darwin Elementary • One of many public schools serving grades K-8 in Logan Square. The community is served by Kelvyn Park High School and Lane Technical High School, both public, but not in Logan Square proper.

  9. Religious & Spirirtual Institutions There are a plethora of religious traditions represented in Logan square. Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church

  10. St. Sylvester Church Most of Logan Square is in the St. Sylvester Parish and its Catholic community is served by this church. The Church also runs a school. Some older Chicagoans, especially those of the catholic faith, identify their communities by parish rather than neighborhood .

  11. Temple of Kriya Yoga Located on Kedzie Boulevard since 1978, this temple has provided residents and visitors with a place for the study & practice of the Kriya Yoga spiritual tradition.

  12. Adidam Center & Bookstore This is a center for the study of the teachings of the Avatar Adi Da Amraj ,who seeks to lead his followers towards his “Free and Blissful Condition” referred to as “The Bright”. This is one of several centers located in the North America, Asia, and Europe.

  14. Visual & Performing Arts Resources Elastic Arts Foudation: Sponsor of non commercial visual & performing arts events, founded in 2002. (http://www.elasticrevolution.com) Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival: An outdoor festival featuring local artist, many of whom are from Logan Square, as well as musical performances, crafts, and food. Occurs yearly in the last weekend of July. (http://www.milwaukeeavenueartsfestival.org) Mixed motion Arts: A dance studio offering classes primarily in modern and Latin dance styles. This studio also rents out space for parties & performances. (http://www.mixedmotionart.com) Chicago Ballet Center: Both a performing company and a school offereing classes for all levels.
