  3. Who we are • 29 year experience assisting newcomers to the UK • Rich understanding of how newcomers settle, their needs, contributions and the importance of English Language acquisition • Awareness of limitations of current provision • Reputation for high quality, innovative services

  4. Who do we work with? New Residents and New Communities • Refugees and asylum seekers • Victims of trafficking, Undocumented and failed asylum seekers • Migrants- including A8 nationals

Types of activities • Advice and Guidance (drop-in, outreach and appointments) • Group work and action learning • Employment support, ESOL courses and customised training programmes • Community development: cultural affirmation, leadership development & capacity building • Influencing public policy • High quality Interpreting & translation service

  6. Challenges facing our communities • No recourse to public funds • Experiences of homelessness and insecure housing • Lack of access to ESOL and the labour market • Lack of immigration advocacy • Increasing debt • Exploitation in the workplace • Health – late diagnoses

  7. We facilitate the New Residents and Refugee Forum in East London • Innovative approach for voice & participation, consultation and inclusion • Tackles core themes : homelessness, health, education, employment • Follow up policy work
