Reasons why this happens • There is no logical or organizational standard for non-journal scientifically oriented writing • Journalists are trained in writing and often have limited scientific backgrounds • Part of that training is fundamentally based on telling and unbiased story despite often times very biased results • Writers are looking for an attention grabbing story and will use strategies to tell the story differently than it happened to make it more entertaining

  4. What can be done? • Get better fact checkers • Find journalists with greater scientific background • Any other suggestions?
